There’s a new crop of cool restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries to try in the Queen City! Here’s everything you need to know about the newest eatin’ places in town!
300 E Commercial Street
Elkhart and the Robberson are the brainchild of revered local chef Drake Tillman. Foodies will know him as the man behind the Canvas pop up dinner series that has been going on in Springfield for quite some time. Tillman decided to grab a more permanent spot to serve his food and landed on Historic C Street. The Elkhart will continue his brand of high end cuisine with a focus on locally sourced ingredients and stunning plate presentation. The Robberson will serve as a lunch spot and a classy lounge in the evenings.

Team Taco is the newest pop up dinner experience in town. It’s a super fun cuisine concept from the owners of Social on Patton, Daniel Stern and Doug Riddle. Evan Greenburg of 417 Mag did a great piece on them back in June, shortly before their first event on June 30th. The two usually hold their cards pretty close to the chest, so we don’t have a firm date on when the physical restaurant will open. They held another pop up event in July, so we can probably expect another one this month, but who knows? Keep an eye out for their next event on Facebook. Trust us, it’s worth the wait. Stern and Riddle are two of the most creative culinary minds in town.

One of the newest additions to the Downtown food scene, New York Style Pizzeria offers up big, foldable slices akin to the pies the Big Apple is famous for. It helps that the owner is from New York and delivers on the authenticity you’d expect from restaurant with this name. In addition to great big pizzas, they do pasta, subs, wings and plenty more!
4121 S National Ave
Many people in Springfield had been waiting for years for a Korean Barbecue to open in town. Bawi is sure to become a favorite for lovers of Korean food very quickly. Tessa Cooper did an excellent introduction for the restaurant in Feast Magazine back in mid-July. Each table has a grill built into it and you get to cook your food the exact way you want it. It’s a fun experience, especially with a group or the family. If you’re with adults, try the soju. It’s a Korean alcohol that pairs well with the dishes you’ll be eating. All in all it’s a really cool cultural experience!
Opened on July 25th, Gooey’s is the newest food truck on the scene in Springfield. As you might expect from the name, Gooey’s does grilled cheese sandwiches. But these aren’t the kind with a Kraft single and a little butter. These are gourmet style sandwiches. They’ve got grilled cheeses with BBQ pork, pizza toppings and sauce, mac and cheese and plenty more! They’re open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
3049 S Fremont Ave
Springfield’s famous coffee culture just got a new addition. Opened in April, Free Solo is just down the street from our home office on Fremont. We can vouch for the tasty breakfast items and delicious morning coffee they serve! They open at 6 a.m. everyday, so you can swing by and try them out even if you’re an early riser.

Known for its handmade crust and original sauce, the pizza at Rocco’s is on point. After opening successful pizzerias in Republic, Nixa, Marionville, and Branson, Rocco’s is coming to Springfield! They feature a good selection of pastas that aren’t just the standard spaghetti and meatballs at some Italian joints. They have unique dishes like seafood ravioli, scopello, alcamo, catania, and Chicken Marsala. A great place to have tasty dinner!
1645 W. Republic Rd. Suite G
The west side has a new favorite coffee spot! Watch out for Roots Coffee bar. It’s a fun, casual bistro that serves breakfast and lunch in addition to scores of tasty coffee drinks. They carry Kingdom coffee, so if you’re not able to get Downtown, fear not. Their lattes and frozen coffees are unique, offering tasty combos like a Crave Cookie dough frozen coffee and the secret menu cookie butter frozen coffee (shown above).
4109 S National Ave
The highly anticipated arrival of Los Cabos in Springfield is nearly here! The smash hit Mexican restaurant from the Oklahoma City area is making the trip to the Queen City and people are stoked! What sets Los Cabos apart is its resort-style atmosphere. They wanted to bring that all inclusive feel back stateside and incorporate it into a one of a kind dining experience. The Blacketer family, who owns the restaurant chain, has more than 40 years experience in the food industry and they’re training their Springfield staff right now. We can’t wait to try it!
2925 W. Republic Rd.
In the three months since its grand opening, Luco’s Pizza has a perfect review record on Facebook. 62 five star reviews! Impressive! The restaurant is named after the “head of the company,” a very cute pup which appears to belong to the owners. The pizza is served on a fresh-made daily hand-tossed crust and offers some truly unique toppings and sauces. For example, a pie named Luco’s Legacy has a fig jam base with Boursin cheese, red onions, mozzarella, prosciutto and gorgonzola. The xtreme pepperoni is no joke (shown above). They say it’s twice the amount a normal pepperoni pie has and we believe it. Any time you’ve got peps stacked on peps, it’s a good sign.
