The American Beauty Roll
Kai After Dark
(417) 832-0077
What’s in it?  Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, crab, cream cheese, and drizzled with spicy seafood and avocado sauce.
Kai is one of Downtown Springfield’s favorite spots, serving up amazing Asian cuisine from it’s location on Campbell. They have a great sushi selection, but their menu extends into some other delectable entrees as well. The restaurant itself has a romantic ambience that makes it a perfect spot for a date. It’s also one of the premier destinations for Valentine’s Day reservations. The folks at Kai create a special menu just for couples! Keep an eye out for this in February.
The Cardinal Roll

The Cardinal Roll has a name local baseball fans will definitely like with a flavor to match. NoVo is one of the newer Asian restaurants in town. It opened in April of 2015 with an eclectic menu from its west side storefront in One Park Centre.
The Crazy Roll
Mijuri Sushi & Bar
(417) 889-9593
What’s in it? Mixed spicy tuna, Yellowtail, salmon, avocado, topped with masago and spicy mayo
Mijuri is conveniently located at Campbell and Sunset, right next to Andy’s Frozen Custard. Sushi is their forte here and they have tons of options for you to choose from. There’s traditional uncooked options and crispy fried rolls as well. Definitely worth a try!
Crispy Sushi Roll
YoshiJen
3250 E Battlefield St
(417) 887-2888
What’s in it? Crab, cucumber and avocado wrapped in sushi rice and nori, panel battered and flash fried. Topped with yummy and reel sauce.
For people who are a little uneasy about uncooked sushi, check this one out! It’s a crispy roll, flash fried with savory crab and fresh little pockets of cucumber and avocado to round out a perfect bite! This restaurant is awesome all the way around. It takes traditional Japanese flavors and adds other elements of Asian Cuisine to create unique flavors.
The Leong’s Roll
Leong’s Asian Diner
1540 W Republic Rd
(417) 887-7500
What’s in it? Soy bean wrap over Yellow tail jalapeno, cucumber, pineapples, cilantro and black tobiko
The original home of cashew chicken serves more than just the dish that has made Springfield famous. They have a wide selection of sushi along with the classic Chinese dishes we’ve come to love. This one is a little different than the rice rolls we’ve featured so far. This one uses a soy bean wrap and adds pineapple to give it a sweet punch!
Crazy Monkey Roll
5 Spice China Grill
(417) 799-0215
What’s in it? Spicy crab, shrimp tempura, salmon, mango, avocado, mango aioli, tempura flakes, sriracha
We’re not sure how the Crazy Monkey roll got its name, but it is fitting. It packs a punch with a hint of sriracha and spicy crab, but not one that will make you feel like you’ve just done the cinnamon challenge. 5 Spice is one of only a few Asian restaurants in town with a drive thru, making it a super-convenient place to grab lunch. It’s also got a great location on south Glenstone near the mall!
The Crazy Joe Roll
Nakato
(417) 881-7171
What’s in it? Crab, shrimp, salmon, tuna, avocado, cucumber, scallions, masago, & Nakato hot sauce
The first and original Japanese restaurant in Springfield, Nakato will always be favorite of ours. The sushi there makes a perfect appetizer to the hibachi meal Nakato’s customers have been enjoying for more than 20 years. This roll is a little on the spicy side, but it’s a spicy you’re sure to love because it uses that amazing seafood sauce as a base with just a little kick!
Salmon Salsa Roll
Haruno Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill
(417) 887-0077
What’s in it? Cream cheese inside a California Roll, topped with cuts of fresh salmon, then drizzled with a citrus wasabi sauce, eel sauce, avocado sauce, and seafood sauce
If you asked many Springfield residents to name the first sushi place they can think of, one of the top answers would undoubtedly be Haruno. The chefs at this Southside favorite have been rolling up sushi goodness for many years and its earned them a lot of fans. Plus, they’re open until midnight most nights, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a sake and a night cap or sushi!
Touchdown Roll
Umi Sushi Bar
3046 S Kimbrough Ave Ste 100
(417) 882-1110
What’s in it? Spicy crab, fresh crab, spciy seafood sauce, red chili sauce
Simple, yet delicious. The touchdown roll is really just two kinds of crab, a few sauces and rice, but it tastes like there’s much more to it than that! Umi is another great spot to grab some sushi any night of the week at its location off Battlefield, behind Buffalo Wild Wings!
The Golden California Roll
Maru Sushi & Grill
1745 James River Rd
(417) 485-6278
What’s in it? Avocado and crab dressed with eel sauce and spicy mayo
Maru is not in Springfield, it’s in nearby Ozark and it’s certainly one of the residents’ favorite places to eat. Maru brings Japanese cuisine to the culinary palettes of our neighbor to the south like no other restaurant does in the area. It features a robust sushi menu, too. Plenty of things to try each time you visit!
Geisha Roll
OMO Japanese Soul Food
2101 W. Chesterfield St B102
(417) 755-7214
What’s in it? Cream cheese, avocado, shrimp tempura, spicy crab mix, sweet sauce
We really love this place. OMO calls itself Japanese Soul Food and it shows in the service and the inventive menu. It’s virtually a guarantee that you’ll be greeted with a smile and friendly words. It’s also one of the few restaurants in town that has mastered the art of Ramen. Check them out at their digs in Chesterfield Village!
Stop, Drop & Roll
Ocean Zen
(417) 889-9596
What’s in it? Spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, super white tuna, shrimp ebi, sweet soy, aioli, srirachi, furikake

The Weewowow
Hinode Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi
(417) 877-1777
What’s in it? Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Avocado, with Crab and Masago on Top with Mayo & Eel Sauce
Weird name, absolutely delicious sushi. This is one of the most popular items on the entire menu at Hinode and for good reason. It’s got all the makings of a perfect roll. Crab, masago, cream cheese and a delightful eel sauce to finish. Hinode delivers consistent flavors and a darn good show for it’s hibachi customers!
