Before you know it, you’ll be tying scarves and lint rolling sweaters. Winter is nearly here, but don’t let that stop you from getting out in the community and enjoying yourself! There are tons of things to do in Springfield when the weather outside is frightful! Here are just a few ideas for you and your significant other to do in the coming months in the Queen City.
Tour Mother’s Brewery
You can experience the Mother’s Brewery tour every Saturday at 2pm, 3pm, or 4pm. It is first come, first serve, so show up at least 15 minutes early to ensure your spot. Mother’s Brewing Company is completely local. The tour is a unique opportunity that Mother’s offers to the public to learn about brewing, taste the craft beers and to see the brewery.
Tour Askinosie Chocolate
Askinosie Chocolate is a local chocolate factory and is a Springfield staple. Thankfully for us, they offer public tours of the factory even on rainy days. You can get a peek inside the place and learn about the chocolate making process. Their doors are open for tours every Tuesday at 3:30pm, and some Saturdays during the holiday season. After going on the tour, you get a 10% discount in store!
See the Mystery Hour Live
They’ve won 3 Emmys and have been making Springfield laugh at the Gillioz Theater for several years.  Host Jeff Houghton and the crew have created dozens of hilarious videos in the past few years.  As the Mystery Hour continues it’s latest season, we’ve got to recommend seeing it in person.  General admission tickets are only $10 and they have some great seasonal passes as well.  Follow the Mystery Hour on Facebook for the dates and guests each month in this season!
Enjoy a theme night at Alamo Drafthouse
The Alamo Drafthouse is much more than just a movie theater. It’s a movie going experience. They regularly host themed movie parties with classics like the Big Lebowski and Pulp Fiction in Springfield. One of the coolest nights so far was a Big Trouble in Little China night with a special menu and of course, the 80s action movie!
Go iceskating at Mediacom Ice Park
You don’t have to be Gracie Gold to enjoy the ice in Springfield. Just getting out there and staying on your feet is pretty decent accomplishment. This is a really good one for new couples, too. You learn a lot about someone when they fall on their behind!
Take a cooking class at Vito’s
Vito’s Kitchen is a fantastic restaurant in Downtown Springfield and the man himself teaches pizza making classes regularly. He’ll show you how to sling a pizza pie like a true Italian chef! You might never be as good as Vito, but it’s sure fun to try!
Get a couples massage at Grove Spa
There’s nothing quite llike a relaxing evening at Grove Spa. Going together can be a great way to cap off a stressful week. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It’s always a good time for a massage!
Hang out at the Springfield Art Museum
Broaden your perspective with a viewing of some amazing local and international art at the Springfield Art Museum! There’s tons of contemporary pieces to give you ideas on what to hang in your own home and there’s lots of history there too.
Learn to Dance at the Savoy Ballroom
Dance with Me at the Savoy Ballroom on Historic Commercial Street is a great way to learn how to cut a rug with the best of them. Owners Ann and Andy can teach you anything from classic ballroom dancing to salsa and everything in between!
Be spontaneous at the Skinny Improv
The Skinny Improv is a great place to get your laugh on in Springfield. It has graduated some classic comedians in Springfield and has a skilled group of performers now as well. It’s the classic improv set up most nights where the players take suggestions from the crowd and do their best to make it hilarious. It’s a fun way to participate in the show and to hear some genuinely funny people do their thing!
